From Belfast, M1 and A4 to Belcoo/Blacklion, Dowra & Drumshanbo
Train: Dublin to Sligo Route, stopping at Carrick on Shannon and Boyle
Air: Ireland West Airport (Knock), Galway, Dublin, Belfast & Shannon
Public transport is principally by bus although Boyle and Carrick on Shannon are also served by train. Bus Eireann runs frequent services to Boyle and Castlebaldwin http://www.buseireann.ie
Irish Rail operates a train to Sligo serving Boyle and Carrick on Shannon train stations http://www.irishrail.ie
Map 1 – Boyle to Ballinafad 10 km – Boyle Abbey, King House, Curlew Mountains, The Red Earls Road, Battle of the Curlews, Gaelic Chieftain, Fort and Castle.
Map 2 – Ballinafad to Castlebaldwin 10 km – Bricklieveves Mountains, Geology and Fossils, Flora & Fauna such as mossy saxifrage, hairy rockcress, stone bramble, hare bell, small white orchid, lesser butterfly orchid, frog orchid and early purple orchid. Carrowkeel Passage Tombs – Megalithic Cemetentery.
Map 3 – Castlebaldwin to Highwood 10 km – Drumlin Swarm, Bellarush Bridgeover the Unshin river, Ballindoon Priory, Charles OConnor monument, Heapstown Cairn, The Labby Rock dolmin with a 55 tonne cap stone.
Map 4 – Highwood to Glen via Ballyfarnon 13 km – Myths and battles of Moytura, The Eglone Stone, Verlical Cave System, Greens Mine, Foyoges Bridge and St Elba’s shrine.
Map 5 – Glen to Corrie Mtn. (Drumkeeran) 7 km – Glen Church, Arigna River and Fr Tynan Bridge, Wind farms Grouse Lodge famine work house, Drumkeeran an old mining village.
Map 6 – Corrie Mtn. to Arigna 13 km – The site of the old Colliery House, Lough Allan and ESB Power station, John McKenna’s birthplace, Gleaghnafarna school, Arigna Mining Experience.
Map 7 – Arigna to Crossna 16 km – Arigna Mining Experience, Coal mining area for 400 years, Kilronan Mountain, Megalithic tombs, Sweathouse. Crannogs of Lough Meelagh, Kilronan Abbey, St Lessairs Well, Turlough O’Carolan memoral and Keadue, Castle Tennysn- Kilronan Castle Hotel.
Map 8 – Crossna to Boyle 17 km – Errironagh Bog, Cloontykilla Castle, Lough Key Forest Park, www.loughkey.ie, Boyle Abbey 12th century Cistercian Abbey, King House.
Map 9 – Drumkeeran to Dowra 12 km – Old Coach road, Court Tomb, Sweat house at Killadiskert, Kilbride Church.
Map 10 – Dowra to Stony River 5 km – Leitrim Way, The Cavan Way, The Black Pigs Dyke, Ballinagleragh Parish, Tobar Bheo Aoid (St Hughs Holy Well).
Map 11 – Stony River to Drumshanbo 7 km – Stony river ford, Ring forts, Famine Graveyard, Sliabh an Iarainn Mountain, Railway.
Map 12 – Arigna to Drumshanbo 7 km – Manager House Mount Allen House, Narrow guage railway, Arigna and Shannon rivers, Ballintra site of Battle 1798 Genral Humbert and his French army.
